Q4 comes with a domestic charging cable that connects to the vehicle's Type II socket, allowing you to conveniently charge the car from your home garage or an external socket. The on‑board charger converts alternating current to direct current for charging. The Level I (120 V) system uses a simple household outlet to fully recharge your vehicle in about 8 hours. The available Level II Charger (240 V) is user‑friendly while offering a faster charge than the Level I, completely charging the vehicle’s battery in about 2.5 hours.Requires purchase and professional installation. PHEV stands for Plug‑In Hybrid Electric Vehicle. PHEVs have a gas engine and an electric motor (or motors) powered by a battery that can be charged by plugging it in.


The Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV CUV drives using a combination of electric battery power and the gas engine. You can manually select your preferred driving mode thanks to the DNA Drive Mode Selector, or you can let the vehicle optimize your driving for you thanks to sophisticated software.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) reduce total fuel consumption by combining two sources of power: an electric motor (or motors), and a gas engine. Typically, the vehicle runs on electric power first, or a combination of electric and gas power optimized for the lowest emissions. Once battery power is depleted, the vehicle will run on gas power alone until a sufficient battery charge is reached by plugging in the battery to recharge.

A Hybrid vehicle does not plug in to recharge the battery; instead, it continuously recharges the battery via regenerative braking and through operation of the engine.


In addition to regenerative braking and engine function, a Plug‑In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) battery can be recharged by plugging it in. A PHEV also has a larger battery capacity than a typical Hybrid vehicle, and can therefore drive electric mode for longer before the combustion engine takes over. This results in lower tailpipe emissions overall than a regular Hybrid vehicle.

Regenerative braking collects and stores the kinetic energy used to stop the vehicle, and uses it to both charge the battery and help the gas‑powered internal combustion engine to drive the vehicle. Just through normal driving, slowing down, and stopping, you contribute to the battery charge.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug‑in Hybrid Q4 charges the battery through regenerative braking: it converts the kinetic energy of your Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Q4 into electrical energy and charges the battery while braking. By setting the E‑Save driving mode the system keeps the battery at a defined charge level, or can recharge the battery up to a set threshold.

Your Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug‑In Hybrid Q4 is equipped with a domestic charging cable which will connect to the vehicle’s Type II socket. This means that you will be able to charge the vehicle from any standard 3‑prong outlet at home or in your garage. An on‑board charger converts alternating current into direct current for charging.


Through the infotainment interface, or through the My Alfa Connect app on your smartphone, you can set the recharge time and maximum current threshold that you require.
